ITRATUF contains itraconazole which belongs to a group of medicines called antifungals. It is used to treat yeast infections of the mouth, throat or food pipe (oesophagus) if you have a poor immune system. It also used to stop you from getting certain fungal infections if you have blood cancer or have had a bone marrow transplant. It works by inhibiting the fungal cytochrome P-450 dependent enzyme lanosterol which in turn blocks the conversion of lanosterol to ergosterol, which disrupts the synthesis of fungal cell membrane.
ITRATUF are not normally given to children under the age of 12. Always take this medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Shake well before use. Do not drive or operate any machinery while taking this medicine, it may make you feel dizziness, blurred vision. Before using it, inform your doctor if you have or had heart problems, kidney or liver disease. The most common side effects are stomach ache, nausea, vomiting, headache, rash, fever or high temperature and shortness of breath.

HOW ITRATUF WORKS
Itraconazole acts by inhibiting the fungal cytochrome P-450 dependent enzyme lanosterol which in turn blocks the conversion of lanosterol to ergosterol, which disrupts the synthesis of fungal cell membrane.

SIDE EFFECTS OF ITRATUF
sudden signs of allergy such as rash, hives (also known as nettle rash or urticaria), severe irritation of your skin, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or other parts of the body
severe skin disorders with peeling and/ or rashes with small pustules (with a fever) or blistering of the skin, mouth, eyes and genitals, with fever, chills, aching muscles and generally feeling unwell
tingling sensation, numbness or weakness in limbs
liver problem such as severe lack of appetite, tiredness, stomach pain, muscle weakness, yellowing of your skin or whites of your eyes (jaundice), unusually dark urine, pale stools or hair loss
heart failure such as shortness of breath, unexpected weight gain, swelling of your legs or abdomen, feeling unusually tired or waking up short of breath at night
fever or high temperature
shortness of breath
increases in liver function tests (shown by blood tests)
unexpected passing of urine or need to urinate (pass water) more often
problems with the sight including blurred vision and double vision
change in taste
certain blood disorders which may increase risk of the infections
ringing in your ears
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Nausea and vomiting:
Keep try taking this medicine with, or just after, a meal or snack and stick to simple meals and do not eat rich or spicy food.
Rest and drink plenty of fluids. Apply a cold, wet cloth or ice pack to your forehead. Rest in a quiet, comfortable, dark room.
Try to rest and relax. You can eat and drink slowly or have frequent meals. Keeping a heat pad or a covered hot water pack on your stomach may also help. If still pain persists, speak to your doctor.
Drink lot of fluid, such as water or squash, to avoid dehydration. Do not take any other medicine without consulting your doctor.
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS
ITRATUF is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
ITRATUF is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate any machinery while taking this medicine, it may make you feel dizziness, blurred vision.
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking this medicine.
ITRATUF should be taken with caution in patients with severe kidney disease. Consult your doctor for advice.

Do not take if you are allergic to the medicine.

If you have any heart related problems, consult your doctor for advice before taking this medicine.
Talk to your doctor if you are taking:
medicines used for hay fever or allergy called terfenadine, astemizole or mizolastine
medicines to lower cholesterol called atorvastatin, lovastatin or simvastatin
medicines used for an irregular heart beat called quinidine, disopyramide, dronedarone or dofetilide
medicines used to treat the angina (crushing chest pain) and high blood pressure called bepridil, felodipine, lercanidipine, ivabradine, ranolazine
medicines used for migraine headaches called dihydroergotamine and ergotamine
medicines used for the treatment of drug abuse called levacetylmethadol and methadone
colchicine (in patients with kidney and liver problems as well)
ergometrine (ergonovine) and methylergometrine (methylergonovine) used for after giving birth
Store below 20-25°C and keep out of reach of children.

Is ITRATUF a steroid?
ITRATUF can not only decrease the fungal colonization but also can be considered as steroid sparing agent with decreasing the inflammation and polyposis.
What are the side effects of ITRATUF?
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, stomach upset, or dizziness may occur. If any of the effects last or get worse, tell your doctor.
How long does it to take for a fungal skin infection to clear up?
The symptoms of fungal infections, such as itching or soreness, should get better within a few days of the treatment. Red and scaly skin may take longer to get better. You may need a treatment for the 1 to 4 weeks.
