Solomon Infrared Ear Mode Thermometer

The Solomon Infrared Ear Thermometer is available with a short tube with a protective sleeve which is inserted into the ear and a shutter is opened to allow radiation from the tympanic membrane to fall on an infrared detector for a period which is typically from 0.1 to 0.3 seconds in the varieties surveyed
The device beeps when data collection is completed and a readout of temperature is produced on a liquid crystal display
This kind of temperature from the eardrum has been found to be a clinically reliable indicator of body core temperature
The eardrum is located close to the hypothalamus, which is the body temperature regulator
The membrane itself is thin and almost transparent in the visible, so you would presume that it reliably tracks the temperature inside the membrane so that the infrared energy it emits gives a good indication of the inside temperature
The infrared energy falls on a thin pyroelectric crystal which develops a charge proportional to that collected energy
Discharging the crystal sends a current pulse through filters and conversion circuits which compare the signal to tabulated data on temperature and calculate a body temperature for the display
How to use:
Please use a new and clean probe cover for every measurement
Please read through the instruction manual before using the thermometer; as proper technique is critical for taking accurate temperatures
The performance of the thermometer may be adversely affected with improper usage
Do not use the thermometer outside the operating ambient temperature of 10 C (50 F)~4 C(104 F)
Do not use the thermometer outside the operating ambient humidity up to 95%RH
Do not use the thermometer when the ear canal is wet or when the person is suffering from ear diseases
Earwax and obstructions will affect the accuracy of the thermometer
Side way sleeping gesture will cause the ear temperature to rise; please avoid it
The thermometer is calibrated and does not require realibration if used according to the instructions

Cleaning of the thermometer is also important. It’s important to clean the thermometer after each use, but how you clean it depends on what type of thermometer you have. For glass thermometers, wash it with soap and cool water, then rinse and dry. For digital thermometer you can wipe it with a cloth soaked in alcohol or water. Allow it to air dry
