    GDC Extraction Forceps Standard

The extraction forceps are instruments used for:-
Removing the tooth from the alveolar bone Ideally, forceps are used to lift elevator-luxated teeth from their sockets, rather than to pull teeth from their sockets. They also can help to expand bone when properly used.

The basic components of dental extraction forceps are :

    • The handle
    • Hinge
    • Beaks

The handle of the forceps are held differently, depending on the position of the tooth to be removed :
Maxillary forceps are held with the palm underneath the forceps so that the beak is directed in the superior direction
The forceps used for the removal of mandibular teeth are held with the palm on the top of the forceps so that the beak is pointed down toward the teeth

The beaks of forceps are angled such that they can be placed parallel to the long axis of the tooth, with the handle in a comfortable position. Therefore :
the beaks of maxillary forceps are usually parallel to the handles
the beaks of mandibular forceps are usually set perpendicular to the handles, which allows the surgeon to reach lower teeth and maintain a comfortable, controlled position.

        • The position of the patient, dental chair, and operator is critical for a successful extraction procedure.
        • Force is delivered with the arm and shoulder and not with the wrist movement.
        • For a maxillary extraction, the occlusal plane should be about 45- 60 degrees to the floor. The height of the chair should be such that the height of the patient mouth is at or slightly below the operator elbow.
        • For the extraction of mandibular teeth, the patient should be positioned in a more upright position so that when the patient opens their mouth widely, the occlusal plane is parallel to the floor. The chair should be lower than for extraction of maxillary teeth.
        • The goal of the forceps use is an expansion of the bony socket by use of wedge-shaped beaks and removal of teeth from the socket.
        • The forceps are applied in five major motions: Apical, Buccal, Lingual,Rotation, and Tractional forces for delivering the tooth from the socket.
        • Warranty

          • 6 months warranty against rust.
